- Recruit Officer Uniforms, PT Gear, shoes, and other items need to be purchased prior to Academy start date.
- Cost for all items is approximately $1,000
- A business suit is also required. If you need to purchase one, please ask your Mentor for a vendor referral.
- US Vets is now giving our Military Veterans that are selected for the LAPD the following. For more info on this program, please ask your Mentor.
- $600 grant to cover initial academy expenses (ie: recruit uniforms and equipment).
- One new business suit for our recruits to wear at the academy when they are waiting for their recruit uniforms to be issued.

CA Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
Upon moving to LA, the DMV will require two proofs of your new address in order to issue your new Drivers License and Vehicle Registration. A vehicle may be essential to getting around LA.

Recruits spend 60% of their time at Ahmanson Recruit Training Center, 30% at Davis Training Center, and 10% at Elysian Park.

Our Academy locations are spread throughout LA. The distance from LAX to ARTC is two miles, LAX to DTC is 26 miles, and LAX to EP si 20 miles. Due to LA traffic, commute times can fluctuate greatly depending on the time of the day. Even travelling just a few miles may take a significant amount of time. Please plan accordingly. Use our online community to connect with other recruit officers and find a roommate. We recommend using online rental sites to assist in securing temporary housing. The Westchester neighborhood near ARTC is a recommended area to look for housing. Contact your LAPD Mentor for additional info on the best areas to live while in the academy.

- When you have free time, take advantage of LA's many hiking trails, beaches, restaraunts, theme parks, and museums.
